Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus, known as the endometrium, starts growing outside the uterus. This misplaced tissue can be found on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or other organs within the pelvis. Unlike the endometrial lining inside the uterus, this external tissue doesn’t have a way to exit the body during menstruation, leading to inflammation, pain, and other complications.
